This is our selection of the best XI of a combined Manchester United and Chelsea squad and here are our reasons:
- Cesc and Nando
- Cesc and Nando
Defence:
Cech: Can't go past Cech this season over Van der Sar, his keeping has helped Chelsea stay up top
A.Cole: even though he's a shit bloke (see Cheryl Cole for details) Ashley is a very good footballer. We picked Ashley over Evra because of Ashley's forward runs and speed
Terry: He's been very solid this season and consistent, which is more than we can say for Rio Ferdinand
Vidic: he eats babies for breakfast, he's a machine
Evra: Neither team has a decent right back and we felt sorry for leaving him out of the squad, so we thought the Frenchman could have a dabble at right back. He's very strong defender and can also be a threat with his attacking runs
Midfield:
J.Cole: since he's come back from injury he's shown brilliant form, hence justifying his selection into Capello's World Cup squad. His goal against Manchester United edges him over the line against Nani and Malouda for the left side.
Lampard: He's been a star this season for Chelsea thanks to Ancelotti's "diamond midfield" tactics.
Essien: Despite his injuries, he deserves to be in the squad over Scholes, Carrick, Fletcher or Anderson. Solid defensive midfielder who can score the odd goal
Valencia: Showed the fans why Ferguson bought him as a replacement for Ronaldo. Although I'd still rather Ronaldo in my squad. Great dribbing and crossing ability.
Strikers:
Rooney: The player of the year deserves his spot in the squad after an amazing season. Has really come out of the shadows of Ronaldo
Drogba: This season's golden boot winner. An absolute goal machine.
