Fall of Liverpool's Twin Towers?
With the EPL season finally over, and Captain John Terry lifting the Premiership Cup to the devastation of Devil fans, Liverpool found themselves in lowly 7th place. The club considered as one of the "Big Four" now seem to have trouble staying in the top 8 of the English competition.
However a lackluster season for the Reds should be the least of their problems, as there are now teams circling the club like vultures to poach their 2 prized assets. No, not Lucas Leiva and David N'gog, those other guys, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres. The "Awesome Two-some" have shown discontent for their sub-par season which the rest of Europe has interpreted as a cry for help.
Chelsea and Manchester City are lining up for Fernando Torres' signature offering up to £70m for the striker. But with Manchester City failing to qualify for Champions League football next season, Chelsea are tipped as favourites to acquire his services.
Steven Gerrard has been linked with a move to Inter Milan. The talismanic midfielder is on the top of Inter's wish list as the chairman has promised Jose Mourinho a large transfer kitty in order to keep him at the club and away from Real Madrid.
I can't remember the last time a transfer rumour became fact, but its fun to imagine what might be. And who knows? Maybe Anfield will be without its superstars next season. Whatever happens, Liverpool are in trouble. If the duo stay, Benitiz (or whoever the manager is) will have to do a lot of recruiting to sign new players if they ever want to step into the top 4 again. If they leave, then this could be the end of an era for the Kop faithful.
